Other games?

Okay, if you are somewhat up-to-date you know there's a vast number of computer games out there. While some are pretty cool, most are just average and otthers are not released yet or may never be. For a non-professional who likes to make maps it can get a little overwhelming to make a choice out of the ever growing amount of new games. Add to that the fact it's getting harder to make something of reasonable quality for one of the recent top titles and you will understand the poor mapper's dilemma. From a map-making point of view I only care for games that really spark my interest and preferably have a solid fanbase. Which brings me to CounterStrike:Source. Now there's a game with a fanbase. Although I do like the game in itself, I don't care much for the online scene, in contrast with the Quake scene. My short trip to MoH:AA (which in a way has the same play style as CS) was an exception since I've always been sincerely fascinated by WW2 and that game was the first to start the whole WW2-game hype. For me it just made sense at the time to try my hand at that game.

But as I said the amount of new games
is ever growing and in time players move away from games. Some are more loyal to a game than others ;) and some games have a longer breath but it's save to say that after a few years at the most every game loses its magnitude. On the other hand I think there's a big chance you can get totally stuck on certain types of games, a
s is the case with me. The slower and more tactical games may be growing on me but in my heart I'm stuck on fast-paced, reckless and crazy First Person Shooters because I simply have most fun with those. So in other words if I get back into mapping it will most likely be for a fast-paced game. A railgun is always a plus.
