Project: My FaceBook

Since May 2011 Slotboom has been working on a series of small portraits. The provisional working title is "My Facebook".
He paints people from his own environment. A 'book' of real faces. While working on these portraits, each and everyone of his subjects has his undivided attention for a considerable time. This project gives expression to an aversion of superficial contacts, imposed upon us by the modern media; Internet, cell phones, iPads etc. Here people have friends and followers by the hundreds and this group is often no more than a number behind their names.
Individuals are reduced to a number (how many friends, followers do you have?).
Many people know each other only from their computer screens, if they know each other at all.

A few ideas in neutral rooms.

The idea is to create a crowd of people. At first glance, the viewer only sees the large size of this group of portraits.
Only on closer inspection, the individuals come forward with their particular characteristics. Just like in real life,
first we see the group and then the individual.

This work is still in progress. The amount he is looking for is approximately 100 portraits.
Each painting measures 20 cm x 20 cm, in a fairly wide black frame.
In which configuration and in what order the pictures are finally arranged,
depends on the space in which they will be exhibited.
Also the relationship between the portrayed people is taken into account.

An empty frame and a frame with portrait.
