" At the moment I like to paint my son and am also trying to get deeper into the plant-life I encounter everyday in the garden by my studio and on route in the city.
If you zoom into the foliage, you can get the notion of discovering a brand new world. I'm also drawn by the feeling nature can give you when you see a landscape or walk through a forest. In a good painting you can experience the same deep sensation. I aspire to get this feeling in my work as well.
Painting my son comes as a natural next step after my earlier work: painting people and portraits. I prefer to use somebody close to me as a model. Not with the intention to record his or her looks or personality, but to create something that breaks free from personal context and my own ideas, something that stands on its own.
I use painting to pull things towards me that I want near me. In the end I want to create an image built in such a way, that you couldn't imagine it ever being anything other than it is."
