This is an overview of the Siebenlist family history as we know it here in Holland.
Let’s begin with the name itself. The name needs to be cut in two. SIEBEN and LIST. The word SIEBEN in German means: Seven The second part: LIST, is trickier In German, LIST can be a ‘ list’, but also a ‘tric’.
In the German magazine ‘Die Welt’ the following article appeared:
Sieben: German name and christian Godsnumber as root. What’s in a name?
By Hans Marcus Thomsen.
Why are people called Siebenlist or Siebenschuh, Siebenwurst or Siebenhaar? Every culture features its numbers, that get a magical meaning attributed to it. To our German forefathers the number Nine (three-times-three) was a holy, perfect number. This was however almost completeliy obliterated once Christianity triumphed over Europe. In the Bible, especially the Old Testament, seven is Gods Number.
