Interview with Ryan
1) How would you call the kind of music you make? The backgrounds of the members of the band range from Punk, through Indie, Alternative, Goth & Rock onto straight Pop, so it's not an easy question to answer, but it makes for an interesting sound.I think our stuff will appeal to an Indie/Alternative crowd essentially, although I don't think it's limited to those.'Textural pop tunes with fine-tuned symmetry and Marmite, bubbling above an underground conscience' may describe our songs (but then again, probably not ..) 2) What is your favorite subject to write songs about? There seems to be an array of subject matter in our songs, coveringdistaste at scummy hoodlums, intellectual confusion between lovers, polygamous entities, addiction to substance and circumstance, and flashes of nudity at social gatherings. Oh, and there's a song about a London call-girl called Myrtle! And there are no lyrics that rhyme with 'turtle',before you ask ..There's a fair amount of fiction in the words, with smatterings of reality(but not the call-girl bit, honest ..) 3) You haven't released an album yet, any plans for an album anytime soon? We would love to record our stuff properly. At the moment, the Myspacetunes are basic recordings (www.myspace.com/in_isolation) and they are far away from the thundering/velvety sounds we are after. Having releasedseveral albums with our previous bands we know the level of qualityrequired, so as soon as somebody catapults bags of cash our way, we can get on with it.Our priority is to gig at the moment, to get the band name peddled, so We might have to wait a short while before we get on with compiling a .. Erm .. compilation. 4) What is your favourite In Isolation song and why? I like 'Isolated', as the lyrics fell together well as it was beingwritten. I am also fond of 'Head-Slain', again for the lyrics, but also the tune - it kicks into the chorus well. Perhaps it's also memories of being by the ocean (when I was in the Westcountry of England I took time out to find a very secluded spot by the sea, and came up with a lot of thoselyrics as the sun was setting over the horizon - most inspiring.)I have a number of guitar tunes which I find very enjoyable to play, But these are yet to be turned into fully-formed In Isolation songs - so watch this space ..I like a number of the songs for the way they came together as John putbasslines to my guitar-y ideas. Of course, now we have Ollie on bass and Tony on drums we may see a whole new creative side to the band's output -it's all very exciting! 5) What do you hope to reach with the band? Well, myself and John have recorded albums and played gigs in Europe And further afield with our last bands, so we're hoping to exceed where we've been in the past. This is also, personally, the first time I have felt part of a 'real'gigging band with a full line-up. In the past there have been a lot ofbacking tapes and drum machines, but now, with Tony and his magic sticks and Ollie 'Funkmeister' Tanner, it looks like groovy things could be on the horizon.Of course, fame, fortune, and a lovely cup of Yorkshire tea wouldn't goamiss, but for now, we're going to write music we like, and hopefullyothers will like it too!
