Faith
and the Muse are from Los Angeles in the USA. William Faith and Monica Richards
started together
as a band in 1993 but both of them had been involved in musical projects
previously.
They have been called
“an art band with a pop sensibility”.
William and Monica’s music is very known in the
underground scene and is probably described best as catchy Goth rock.
Some songs, as Whispered In, have a dance-like beat while others, like Srendni
Vasht, will blow you away in rock style.
Faith and the Muse doesn’t take up all the
members time. Monica paints and wrights books and William is also a producer.
Albums:
The Burning Season (2003)
Vera Causa – Night and Morning (2001)
Evidence of Heaven (1999)
Annwyn, Beneath the Waves (1996)
Elyria (1994)
The band name:
The Faiths and the Muses are both named in Greek
mythology. The Faiths (also called Moirea) are the goddesses who control all
life.
They had threads which were lives and if you had to die they would cut
them, the moment your thread was cut your life was over.
The Muses are a more happy story. There nine goddesses inspired all artist and
all art. The
words music and museum come from the word Muse.

Interview With Monica
1)
If you could live in a different time period which period would it be?
Monica: In all honesty, though I glamorise the past, as far as the aesthetics
and fashion, the simpler times they were, women had it so badly, I am glad to
live in this day and age, with the ability to choose my own life, follow my
dreams, and create my own style from my own view of the ages.
2) the
Faiths and the Muses are from Greek Mythology, what interests you in that?
Monica: The word "muse" comes from the Greek, but the idea of Goddess
Inspiration is ages old. My interest has always been in mythology, but the
world-wide inherent connections. I always tend to search for mythology and
meaning in the modern world, which I think is something many people need...
3)
You are from America, here in Europe we hardly ever hear Goth music from
the US, is there a real Goth scene in the US?
Monica: Yes, but that was ten years ago, the term is quite meaningless to me.
After looking back at my path over 20 years, I see myself these days as an
artist, without a specific genre. I have always leaned towards a darker side of
things, even in my Punk days, but I continue on, as definitions and genres come
and go...
4)
Which of your own songs do you like most?
Monica: "Cantus" is one that I will always be very proud of, "The
Burning Season" as well..
5)
Which of your songs do you like performing best?
