Baku pioneer railway

A 1-km long pioneer railway is operated in the Dzerzhinskogo Park. The pioneer railway opened in 1947. It was still in service in 2003, though as a park railway (operated by adults) instead of as a pioneer or childrens railway. The season is from early May until early November.

Three TU2's have worked on the line. From these engines, TU2-019 is the 'home-locomotive'. It was obtained from Valmiera approximately in 1973. By 2001 it had been taken out of service in order to supply spare parts for TU2-206. But in 2003 it was restored in working condition again.

Sometime in the late 1970s TU2-099 was obtained from the Volgograd pioneer railway. But it has not not worked in Baku for long. Already in 1978 it was handed over to the newly opened Nakhichevan pioneer railway. Later, presumably in the mid-1980s, TU2-206 was obtained from the Nakhichevan pioneer railway. Since then, the motive power fleet of the Baku pioneer railway has consisted of two TU2's again.

Nakhichevan pioneer railway

This 700-m long pioneer railway opened in 1978. The rolling stock consists of TU2-099 (ex-Baku) and three Pafawag coaches. Earlier, also TU2-182 (late 1970s ex-Valmiera) and TU2-206 (1978 ex-MPS Atbasar) worked on the line. The latter has later turned up on the Baku pioneer railway. The faith of TU2-182 is unknown; it might even be in Nakhichevan as we speak.
