Who are we

In the meantime I, Jolanda Alards, am fan of the Finnish Lapphund for already several years. In the beginning of the year 2000 I decided I wanted a dog. I started a search for a breed that suids me. After deepened in several breeds and their characters I found the Finnish Lapphund. I first wanted to see one in real, and I went to Echt. After I saw Lukka, a bitch from family Pulles, it was clear, I wanted a Finnish Lapphund.

Import

After gathering more information, it was clear to me that there was only sporadic a litter in Holland. And so I decided to import a puppy from Finland with the help of the contact person from the Finnish Lapphund club Holland. Just before Christmas Turnukan Harva came to Holland. A very nice present under the cristmastree. 2 Years later came Shacal Xena and in 2003 I flew to Finland to pick up Shacal Rosita Kiitos.

Character

From origin the Finnish Lapphund is herding reindeers. Together with the Saami they lived a nomads live in severe conditions. Their full coat protected them and kept them warm. Their warm coat also kept the childeren warm at night in the tent. Because of this close cooperation between dog and human the Finnish Lapphund became a very social and strong Breed, which is very hard for itself.

My own experience is that the Finnish Lapphund is very social and therefore very suitable as a familydog. They can also be pigheaded, they belong to the pole dogs so don't expect a slavishly dog. They really like to work togheter with their owner, but if you want him to do the same excercise several times, it will look at you like he want's to say; I already showed you a few times, you could see I did it right, now it is enough. Furhter they really enjoy beeing in the open air, but with the whole family together inside makes them also happy.
