Whispers Remix Intro at Back To The Oldschool's Website

The Whispers were formed in 1964 by the twin brothers Walter & Wallace Scott (born 1943, Fort Worth, Texas) and Nicholas Caldwell, Marcus Hutson and Gordy Hamilton (later replaced by Leavill Degree) They imitated much Philly Sound at Soul Train (later Solar Records) and made the hit "One For The Money" in 1975. In 1979 Leon Sylvers III, in that time the kingpin of Dick Griffey's Solar (Sound of Los Angeles Records) production team, produced, together with two members of Lakeside, the West Coast Dance Hit "And The Beat Goes On". From that moment of the Whispers made that typical sound we all know best.

Albums were always divided in two, A-side: uptempo, B-side: ballads. In 1987 Kenny Edmonds and Antonio Reed (A.K.A. Babyface and LA Reid) produced the urban-contemporary hit "Rock Steady", which can be found on the album "Just Gets Better With Time".

After that period Babyface had a smash hit with "Whip Appeal" and Johnny Gill with "My My My", These songs were really meant for the Whispers. "Just Gets Better With Time" was the last album for Solar Records. In 1993 Walter and Wallace left the band. As of 1990 some great albums were produced for Capitol records. (also together with Walter and Wallace) but those 80z sounds were different.. Of course several "Best Of" CD's were made.
